Valrenna — technical data sheet
Key performance data for this suede‑touch, tactile wall finish: composition, coverage, drying behaviour and substrate guidance for UK projects.
SUEDE / BUCKSKIN LANGUAGE · WATER‑BORNE SYSTEM · BREATHABLE & LOW VOC
Key specifications
| Finish | Velvety, suede‑effect decorative coating with subtle tonality, soft hand and directional nap that responds to light. |
|---|---|
| Base | Water‑borne decorative system for interiors; breathable once cured when used over appropriate primers and substrates. |
| Appearance | Soft buckskin / suede look with textile character. Different techniques (Buckskin, Shantung, Linen) create varied weaves and levels of movement. |
| Coverage (guide)* | Project‑ and technique‑dependent; check yield on a representative sample panel under project lighting and as indicated in the full TDS. |
| Application tools | Short‑pile roller for primer and base coats, soft suede brush / spalter or application glove for the textile effect, and a clean soft brush for final “caressing” passes. See the ISF tools page for recommended references. |
| System products |
Primer / fixative: substrate‑appropriate primer as specified in the PDF TDS to ensure uniform absorption. Finish: Valrenna applied in 1–2 coats, the final coat brushed to create the suede effect. Optional protection: clear sealer only where elevated washability is required. |
| Drying / recoat | Respect intervals indicated in the TDS; typically dust‑free in around 1 hour, recoat after 5–6 hours and fully cured after approximately 24 hours at 20 °C. Avoid forced drying and high humidity. |
| Sizes | Pack sizes as per the PDF specification. Always confirm stock sizes and batching with ISF for project work. |
*Always confirm coverage and final appearance on a sample board under project lighting.
System build — Valrenna cycle
The Valrenna system is based on a prepared substrate, specified primer and 1–2 coats of Valrenna, refined to create the characteristic suede appearance.
- Prepare & prime — Substrate must be sound, clean, dry and stable. Repair cracks, fill imperfections and sand smooth. Apply the specified primer / fixative (typically Primer 400, tinted), then allow to dry fully.
- First coat — Apply Valrenna uniformly with a short‑pile roller or brush, working in sections and maintaining even thickness. Allow to dry as per the technical data sheet.
- Second coat & texture — Apply a thin coat and, while workable, use a soft suede brush / spalter to create the directional suede movement corresponding to the chosen technique (Buckskin, Shantung, Linen).
- Optional protection — In higher‑traffic areas, apply a compatible clear sealer only where additional washability is required, taking care not to flatten the nap or create patchy gloss.
Drying & curing
- Intervals between coats: as indicated in the Valrenna TDS; do not over‑coat too soon.
- Full cure: follow the TDS guidance before any optional sealing or intensive cleaning.
- Site conditions: avoid high humidity, condensation, strong draughts or direct heat sources during drying.
Respecting drying and curing windows is critical to a stable, uniform suede reading and long‑term performance.
Compatible substrates & maintenance
Suitable substrates include:
- Sound, clean, dry interior plaster and drywall.
- Masonry or render that has been stabilised and primed with the specified fixative.
- Previously painted surfaces where coatings are stable, matt / lightly sanded and correctly primed.
Do not apply over unstable, damp or contaminated substrates, or where active moisture problems are present. Stabilise and resolve any underlying issues before installing the system.
Maintenance:
- Dust with a soft cloth or vacuum using a soft brush attachment.
- If sealed, wipe gently with a damp cloth; avoid abrasive cleaners and scouring pads.
- Do not subject freshly applied work to aggressive cleaning before full cure.
Health, safety & project resources
Valrenna is a water‑borne, low‑VOC system developed by Valpaint and curated by Italian Surface Finishes for the UK market. Standard good practice for decorative coatings applies:
- Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.
- Wear gloves, eye protection and suitable work clothing; avoid prolonged skin contact.
- Store sealed between +5 °C and +30 °C; protect from frost and direct heat.
- Do not dispose of liquid material into drains or watercourses; follow local regulations.
For detailed safety information, refer to the official Safety Data Sheets supplied on request.
