Klondike Classic — Technical Data Sheet
Key performance data for this textured metallic wall system: composition, coverage, drying, substrates and maintenance for UK projects where metallic feature walls are being specified.
ITALIAN‑MADE VALPAINT SYSTEM · SPECIFIED, TINTED & SUPPORTED BY ITALIAN SURFACE FINISHES IN UK
Key specifications
| Type | Water‑borne decorative metallic coating for interior walls and ceilings. |
|---|---|
| Finish | Textured metallic wall surface with controllable grain and movement — from subtle brushed sheen to stronger patina, depending on tool and technique. |
| Binder | Acrylic‑based water‑borne system with metallic and mineral fillers. |
| Appearance | Metallic sheen with visible texture and soft shading. Under grazing light the finish recalls metallic fabric or hand‑finished patinated metal. |
| Coverage* |
Approx. 4–6 m²/L per coat on smooth, primed substrates. Two‑coat systems: allow for texture level and substrate absorption. |
| Drying / recoat |
Touch dry: approx. 2–4 hours at 20 °C. Recoat: approx. 6–8 hours at 20 °C. Full cure: approx. 7 days at 20 °C under normal conditions. |
| Tinting | Tinted using Valpaint’s colour system. All Klondike Classic tinting for the UK is carried out by Italian Surface Finishes in London to help catalogue boards, sample panels and site batches align under UK lighting. |
| Application tools | Soft synthetic brush / spalter, plastic trowel or spatula, roller for basecoat. Specialist tools (sponges, pattern makers) may be used for advanced effects. |
| Use | Interior feature walls and ceilings in residential, retail and hospitality projects. Not designed as a floor finish or for permanently wet environments. |
*Coverage is indicative and will vary with substrate, application method and desired effect. Always confirm via sample panels under project conditions.
Compatible substrates
Klondike Classic is suitable for interior walls and ceilings when applied over properly prepared, primed substrates:
- New plaster and skimmed plasterboard (fully cured, smooth).
- Jointed plasterboard with correctly treated joints and repairs.
- Sound, previously painted surfaces (cleaned, de‑glossed and primed).
- Interior masonry/render that is dry, stable and primed.
Substrates must be stable, free from rising damp, efflorescence, loose coatings and contaminants. Glossy or critical surfaces should be sanded and primed in accordance with the Valpaint Klondike system sheet. For complex substrates, please consult Italian Surface Finishes.
System build — Klondike Classic metallic finish
The exact specification can vary with colour and effect, but a typical Klondike Classic metallic wall system is:
- Substrate preparation — fill, sand and clean the substrate to a smooth finish. Remove loose paint and contaminants.
- Primer / basecoat — apply the specified Valpaint primer or tinted basecoat (e.g. a dedicated Klondike base) evenly with roller, ensuring full coverage and uniform absorption. Allow to dry completely.
- First coat of Klondike Classic — apply a thin, even coat using a soft brush or spalter. The aim is continuity, not texture. Allow to dry.
- Second Klondike Classic coat — texture & movement — apply a second coat and immediately work the surface with the brush and a clean plastic trowel, compressing peaks and organising the metallic movement. Work wet‑in‑wet in controlled sections to avoid lap marks.
- Optional protective sealer — in high‑contact or commercial areas, apply a compatible clear protective finish after full cure to improve cleanability and resistance to marking.
More advanced choreography (broken colour, stronger patina, directional movement) is taught within the Valpaint London Academy modules.
Performance & maintenance
Performance notes
- Provides a robust decorative film on vertical interior surfaces when applied over stable, suitably primed substrates.
- Designed for residential, retail and hospitality interiors where metallic feature walls are desired.
- Not intended for floors, permanent immersion, shower interiors or areas of continuous condensation.
Cleaning & care
- Allow approximately 7 days for full curing before first cleaning.
- Dust regularly with a soft cloth or vacuum with a soft brush attachment.
- Where sealed, light marks can usually be removed with a damp cloth and mild neutral detergent. Avoid aggressive scrubbing that could dull metallic highlights.
- Avoid abrasive pads, scouring powders, bleach and solvent‑based cleaners.
Health, safety & environment
- Water‑borne decorative coating with low VOC content, suitable for interior environments when used as directed.
- Ensure adequate ventilation during application and drying.
- Avoid contact with skin and eyes; wear suitable gloves and eye protection.
- Do not ingest. Keep out of reach of children.
- Dispose of residues and empty containers according to local regulations.
- Refer to the official Valpaint Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for full safety information.
