Key specifications

Finish Semi‑matt decorative coating with crystal highlights and pronounced two‑colour “sea‑wave” movement.
Use / type Water‑based, two‑colour decorative wall system for interior feature walls, applied over a dedicated undercoat with specific brushes (PV 102 / PV 103).
Chemistry Acrylic water‑based binder containing selected crystalline aggregates and special effect pigments designed to overlap and refract light, creating an opalescent reading along the wave pattern.
Coverage (guide) Typical yields on smooth, primed walls:
  • Mavericks effect coat: approx. 9–10 m²/L.
Actual coverage depends on substrate texture, absorption, colour strength and wave intensity.
Application tools
  • PV 102 Double Brush — two coordinated colours loaded on each side.
  • PV 103 Finishing Brush — used dry to sculpt waves and spread crystals.
  • Standard rollers/brushes for the Nautilus undercoat.
Recommended tools are available from the ISF Tools & Accessories range.
System products Undercoat: Nautilus, applied in:
  • 1 coat on sound, uniform surfaces.
  • 2 coats on white/very light tones or more absorbent substrates.
Colour system:
  • Two Mavericks bases, each supplemented with a dedicated L50 colour pack (two different shades).
  • Colours are applied together via PV 102 and refined with PV 103.
Optional protection: any additional clear coats or protective layers must follow the Valpaint specification for the specific project and environment.
Drying / recoat At approx. 20 °C and 65 % RH:
  • Touch dry: approx. 1 hour.
  • Ready for light handling or overpainting: approx. 3–4 hours.
  • In‑depth dry: about 24 hours, depending on thickness and ventilation.
Recommended use Interior feature walls and panels in:
  • Living areas, dining rooms and entrance halls.
  • Hotel lobbies, bars, restaurants and boutique retail.
  • Show flats, marketing suites and brand environments.
Not designed for floors, exterior façades or permanently wet areas.
Packaging Supplied in project‑friendly sizes according to Valpaint packaging (e.g. 0.5 L units and associated L50 packs). Confirm exact packaging at time of order.

Coverage values are indicative. Always create a representative sample panel under project lighting to confirm yield, colour and wave language before large‑scale work.

Compatible substrates

Mavericks is suitable for most interior vertical substrates once they are correctly prepared. Typical substrates include:

  • New gypsum plaster and skimmed plasterboard (fully cured and dry).
  • Existing sound acrylic paints, after cleaning, light abrasion and de‑dusting.
  • Cement–lime renders and mineral base coats that are stable and free from efflorescence.

Substrates must be sound, clean, dry and cohesive. Remove all loose, flaking or chalking coatings, repair cracks and defects, sand smooth and de‑dust thoroughly. Apply the Nautilus undercoat to regulate absorption and create a uniform base before applying the Mavericks wave effect.

System build — Mavericks

The exact specification will vary with substrate, colour and project demands, but the core logic is:

  • 1. Substrate preparation
Stabilise, repair, level and sand to achieve a smooth, uniform surface. Remove dust and contaminants.
  • 2. Nautilus undercoat
Apply Nautilus (1–2 coats) by roller/brush as per the Technical Data Sheet. Allow to dry thoroughly between coats and before the effect coat.
  • 3. Colour set‑up
Add the two L50 colour packs (two different tones) to the respective Mavericks containers and mix until homogeneous, ensuring crystals and pigments are fully dispersed.
  • 4. Mavericks wave effect coat
Working in 1–2 m² areas, load each side of PV 102 Double Brush with a different colour and apply overlapping strokes. While the product is still open, pass lightly with PV 103 to sculpt the sea‑wave pattern and spread crystals, finishing with gentle cross‑strokes to remove sharp marks.

For complex geometries or demanding projects (double‑height spaces, curved walls, stair cores), mock‑ups or sample walls are recommended to refine wave language and transitions before full installation.

Performance & maintenance

Performance notes

  • Provides a durable decorative finish for vertical interior surfaces when applied over stable, suitably primed substrates.
  • Intended for feature walls and focal areas, not for whole‑building coverage.
  • Not designed as a waterproof coating on its own; for permanently wet areas, see Waterproof Artistic Walls.

Cleaning & care

  • Allow approximately 15 days for full curing before first cleaning.
  • Dust regularly with a soft cloth, microfibre or feather duster.
  • For marks, use a soft, slightly damp cloth and mild neutral detergent where necessary. Avoid aggressive scrubbing that could burnish the surface or alter the crystal highlights.
  • Do not use abrasive pads, scouring powders, bleach or solvent‑based cleaners.

Health, safety & environment

  • Water‑based formulation with low VOC content for interior use.
  • Apply in well‑ventilated conditions; avoid inhalation of spray or fine mist.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin; wear suitable gloves, eye/face protection and work clothing.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Do not eat, drink or smoke during use.
  • Store in tightly closed original containers between approx. +5 °C and +30 °C; protect from frost and direct sunlight.
  • Dispose of residues and empty containers in accordance with local regulations. Do not discharge into drains or waterways.

Waterproof Artistic Walls & technical resources

Mavericks is intended for dry interior walls. In selected designs it can also appear as the visible finish in areas built with the Waterproof Artistic Walls framework, where a full E‑VOLUTION PLUS body provides waterproofing and Mavericks is applied as an artistic top layer. These multi‑system builds are always specified and controlled by Italian Surface Finishes on a project‑by‑project basis.
