Italian Surface Finishes in the UK

In the ISF Framework, “designer plaster” is shorthand for the Meteore 10 family — Italian lime-based systems held as three clear readings: concrete, polished stone and textured plaster. The chemistry is disciplined; grain, tone and sheen are what move so walls feel structural, not decorative in British homes, galleries and hospitality spaces.

Designer plaster in the ISF Framework

Meteore 10 is the mineral backbone of this family. In the Framework it is held as three clear readings — Cemento, Marmorizzato and Intonaco — so that “plaster” stops being a vague mood and becomes a system you can actually draw and specify.

The structure underneath is consistent: primers, bodies and protection are agreed first. Within that, we tune grain, reflectance and colour so walls sit quietly with stone, timber and light — whether that’s a mews house in London, a gallery in Scotland or a restaurant in Manchester.

Concrete, marble and plaster — the three readings

Start with how the wall should read — as concrete, marble or plaster — then choose the Meteore 10 system that carries that reading inside the Framework.

Concrete reading

Meteore 10 Cemento

Lime-based concrete reading for monolithic walls without slab joints. Movement comes from grain and controlled tool marks, so the surface feels cast rather than painted but remains soft enough for homes and hospitality.

Typical zones: open-plan living, kitchens, galleries, reception spaces and stair cores where “concrete” needs to feel precise and lived-in, not raw and cold.

Meteore 10 Marmorizzato

Polished mineral reading with controlled veining and soft reflectance. Marble-like clarity without panel joints or slab weight, so walls can read as continuous stone.

Typical zones: hotel lobbies, dining rooms, lift lobbies and gallery corridors where you want a refined stone language but need the flexibility of plaster.

Meteore 10 Intonaco

Textural lime plaster with quiet relief and a matt-to-silk sheen. Tooling and undulation are composed so plaster feels intentional — a designed surface, not incidental background.

Typical zones: stair cores, hallways, bedrooms, restaurant walls and ceilings where you want plaster to carry the space without shouting.

Where designer plaster belongs in a project

This family sits wherever walls need to read as part of the structure — surfaces that can carry an entire scheme or sit quietly behind joinery, art and light.

In UK projects that often means long sightlines through living spaces, stair cores tying storeys together, and hospitality interiors where people and lighting are constantly moving. Designer plaster gives you that continuity without the hardness of exposed concrete or the glare of high-sheen paint.

Dry rooms, wet rooms and continuous systems

Meteore 10 itself is a designer plaster family. When the same readings are needed in showers, wet rooms or spa spaces, they are carried on fully waterproof bodies inside the wider ISF Framework.

In practice that means walls can read as concrete, marble or plaster from bedroom to bathroom, but the build-up underneath changes as soon as you cross into a wet zone or onto a floor.

  • Waterproof Artistic Walls for showers, wet rooms and spa spaces — a continuous waterproof body with the chosen surface language composed on top.
  • Italian Microcement (I-BETON) for concrete-reading floors, stairs and volumes that need to connect back to designer plaster walls.

The point is simple: aesthetics stay coherent, but the system is tuned to the zone, whether that’s a London en-suite or a spa in the Highlands.

Where designer plaster sits in the ISF ecosystem

These are not tins on a shelf. Designer plasters move through the same chain as every other Framework family: Italian manufacturer, London Studio, ISF Academy and Installer Network.

That chain matters in the UK: it’s how we make sure the plaster you sign off in the Studio is the one that appears on site weeks or months later, even when projects are busy and programmes move.

Plaster can’t be chosen from thumbnail images. In the London Studio you can see concrete, marble and plaster readings at full height, compare them with other families and leave with a project-ready specification for UK-based work.

For showers and fully wet areas, start with Waterproof Artistic Walls — designer plaster readings carried on a fully waterproof body.
