Waterproof Artistic Walls — Technical Data Sheet
Technical information for the E‑VOLUTION PLUS resin–mineral body system used behind Waterproof Artistic Walls — specification‑ready for microcement‑style bathrooms, wet rooms, spa walls and waterproof decorative surfaces.

Key specifications
E‑VOLUTION PLUS is a multi‑layer, fully bonded system for wet‑area walls and floors, engineered in Italy and implemented in the UK under the Italian Surface Finishes Framework. It forms the technical backbone of Waterproof Artistic Walls: a continuous resin–mineral body with professional polyurethane top coats.
Unlike thin “microcement paint” kits that rely on one decorative layer and a sealer, E‑VOLUTION PLUS is built as a waterproof body first — primers, epoxy–mineral coats, smoothing layers and top coats — with the visible surface chosen second from the Valpaint decorative range (concrete, stone, marble, silk, suede, metallic, patina).
| System type | Resin–mineral decorative system for interior wet and dry walls and selected floors, forming a continuous waterproof body beneath compatible finishes. |
| Main use within ISF Framework | Wet‑area body for Waterproof Artistic Walls and microcement‑style bathrooms, including showers, wet rooms, spa walls and waterproof feature walls. |
| Composition | Combination of primers, epoxy–mineral body coats, smoothing / pore‑sealing layers and two‑component polyurethane top coats; decorative finishes applied where specified. |
| Typical thickness | Thin‑build, multi‑millimetre system (exact build‑up depends on specification, substrate and exposure class). |
| Substrates | Cementitious screeds, concrete, cement boards, plasterboards, appropriate renders and sound tiled surfaces, prepared as per system guidance. |
| Appearance | Final appearance depends on the chosen decorative language (concrete, stone, silk, metallic, patina, etc.) applied over the E‑VOLUTION PLUS body. |
This document must be read together with individual component Technical Data Sheets and any project‑specific specification issued by Italian Surface Finishes.
System components — E‑VOLUTION PLUS body cycle
| Primers | Substrate‑specific primers applied according to base condition: adhesion promoters for tiles or dense substrates, consolidating primers for porous or absorbent bases, and specialist primers where required in wet‑room build‑ups. |
| Body coats | Epoxy–mineral body coat(s) forming the main waterproof layer across walls and floors; applied in one or more passes to the specified thickness. |
| Smoothing / levelling layers | Intermediate coats used to refine surface flatness, close pores and prepare the body for top coats and any decorative systems. |
| Pore sealers | Dedicated products used where required to further reduce surface porosity ahead of polyurethane finishing or decorative cycles. |
| Top coats | Two‑component polyurethane finishes (matt or satin) providing wear, chemical resistance and cleanability in domestic and commercial settings. |
| Decorative finishes | Compatible Valpaint decorative systems selected by Italian Surface Finishes based on the project brief — concrete, stone, marble, silk, suede, metallic, patina and related effects, particularly within the Waterproof Artistic Walls category. |
Exact product names, number of coats and coverage rates are confirmed in the project specification and component TDS.
Compatible substrates & limitations
E‑VOLUTION PLUS may be applied to most stable, dry, load‑bearing substrates when correctly designed and prepared.
- Cementitious screeds and concrete slabs — cured, dimensionally stable, level and free from rising damp.
- Cement boards and suitable plasterboards — installed according to wet‑room guidelines, jointed and reinforced as required.
- Existing ceramic / porcelain tiles — in sound condition, after mechanical preparation and adhesion promotion.
- Traditional plasters and renders — subject to moisture, strength and compatibility checks.
Substrates with significant movement, ongoing cracking, active moisture ingress or incompatible previous coatings may be unsuitable or require remedial works. Structural design, waterproofing membranes behind boards and falls to drains remain the responsibility of the project design team.
Example build‑ups (summary)
The exact cycle will vary by project, but typical approaches include:
A. Shower walls over existing tiles
- Survey, replace defective tiles, mechanical preparation and thorough cleaning.
- Tile adhesion primer as per specification.
- One or more E‑VOLUTION PLUS body coats to build a continuous waterproof layer.
- Smoothing / pore‑sealing coats to refine the surface.
- Optional decorative cycle (e.g. concrete, stone, patina, silk) from the Valpaint range.
- Polyurethane top coats to the specified sheen and film thickness.
B. New build wet room: cement board walls & screed floor
- Board installation and screed preparation as per wet‑room detail; joints reinforced.
- Primers matched to board and screed.
- E‑VOLUTION PLUS body coats across walls and (if specified) floor / tray.
- Smoothing / pore‑sealing layers.
- Decorative finishes as part of the Waterproof Artistic Walls scheme.
- Polyurethane top coats; protection during cure; staged handover.
Number of coats, film builds and compatible decorative systems must follow the project‑specific specification issued by Italian Surface Finishes.
Drying, curing & return to service
- Drying between coats — follow the minimum and maximum recoat windows given in each component TDS. Conditions on site (temperature, humidity, ventilation) will influence actual times.
- Initial cure — surfaces must be protected from standing water, heavy impact and aggressive cleaners during early cure.
- Full cure — ultimate mechanical and chemical resistance is only achieved after complete curing of both body and polyurethane top coats.
- Commissioning showers / spa zones — timing is project‑dependent but is always confirmed in the ISF specification; early use can compromise performance.
For hotel, spa or high‑traffic schemes, Italian Surface Finishes will normally provide project‑specific guidance on phasing, protection and the timetable for full operation.
Maintenance, cleaning & health / safety
Maintenance & cleaning
- Routine cleaning with soft cloths or mops and neutral detergents is usually sufficient.
- Avoid abrasive pads, scourers, strong alkalis, acids or solvent‑based cleaners not approved for the system.
- In commercial settings, agree cleaning products and regimes with ISF at design stage.
- Standing water should not be allowed to stagnate in corners, behind fittings or at low points.
Health, safety & environment
- Consult the Safety Data Sheet for each component before use.
- Use appropriate PPE (gloves, eye protection, respiratory protection where indicated) and provide adequate ventilation.
- Store products in closed containers, within the temperature range specified; protect from frost and direct sunlight.
- Disposal of waste and wash‑water must comply with local regulations; do not discharge into drains or watercourses.
Framework summary. E‑VOLUTION PLUS is the wet‑area body that allows Italian Surface Finishes to deliver Waterproof Artistic Walls in real UK projects: one system spanning microcement‑style bathrooms, wet rooms, spa walls and kitchen splash zones, with the visual language — concrete, stone, silk, suede, metal — chosen to suit the brief.
