Italian Surface Finishes in UK
Sabulador Soft — Application Guide
UK‑adapted application cycle for Sabulador Soft as a sandy overlay and soft luminescent veil — both as a primary finish over primer, and as a thin overlay over concrete plasters, decorative paints and Waterproof Artistic Walls bodies.
SABULADOR SOFT · SANDY OVERLAY · PRIMARY FINISH OR VEIL OVER EXISTING SYSTEMS
System overview
Sabulador Soft is Valpaint’s sandy overlay and soft luminescent veil. It can be used:
- as a primary decorative system over a suitable primer, or
- as an overlay over existing decorative systems (e.g. Meteore 10, E‑VOLUTION PLUS, Valsetin, paints).
In both cases it is applied in thin sandy veils, so yield is high and the underlying structure remains legible. This guide describes the UK application method used and taught by Italian Surface Finishes.
Step‑by‑step method
A. As a primary decorative finish over primer
-
Substrate preparation
Ensure the surface is clean, dry, stable and smooth. Fill cracks and imperfections, skim if required, sand and carefully remove dust. Strong colour changes or patch repairs should be evened out. -
Primer
Apply the specified primer (typically PRIMART 600) with roller or brush, working to a uniform, streak‑free finish. Dilution is adjusted to substrate absorption. Allow to dry completely. -
First Sabulador Soft veil
Stir thoroughly. Using a suitable decorative brush (or PV76 where specified), apply a very thin, even veil of Sabulador Soft over the surface in criss‑cross strokes. Aim for continuity, not opacity — the base tone should still read. -
Second Sabulador Soft veil
After approx. 3–4 hours, apply a second thin veil, again keeping a wet edge and working wall‑by‑wall. This pass refines the sheen and controls direction and intensity. -
Final checks
Inspect under project lighting (daylight and artificial). Ensure movement and sheen are coherent across each elevation and match the approved sample.
B. As an overlay over existing decorative systems
-
Check the base system
Confirm the existing finish (e.g. Meteore 10, E‑VOLUTION PLUS body, Valsetin, paint) is fully cured, sound and clean. Any defects should be rectified before applying Sabulador Soft. -
Inter‑coat / primer if required
Depending on the base system and specification, apply a regulating primer or inter‑coat recommended by Italian Surface Finishes. Allow to dry. -
First overlay veil
Apply a thin, even veil of Sabulador Soft with a suitable brush, working with the geometry of the underlying texture. Keep the film light so that the base pattern remains visible. -
Second overlay veil (if needed)
Once the first veil is dry, a second can be applied to increase luminescence or to unify large areas. This is often lighter and more selective, targeted to specific elevations. -
Edge & detail control
Check corners, junctions and details (e.g. sockets, trims) to ensure the overlay reads as continuous and intentionally veiled, not patchy or over‑loaded.

Professional tips from the London Studio
- Think in veils, not coats — Sabulador Soft is designed as a thin overlay. If it looks like paint, it’s usually too heavy.
- Protect the base — when overlaying decorative plasters or waterproof systems, confirm compatibility and curing time before starting.
- Sample on the actual base — always sample Soft over the same system and colour it will sit on in the project, not just on white board.
- Work wall‑by‑wall — especially on long elevations, plan breaks at natural corners or joints rather than stopping mid‑wall.
- Check under project lighting — review veils under final lighting, particularly if Soft is unifying high‑contrast or textured substrates.
Safety & environment
Sabulador Soft is a water‑based decorative coating with low VOC content. It is suitable for residential, retail and hospitality interiors when used according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.
- Wear gloves and eye protection; avoid prolonged skin and eye contact.
- Do not discharge product or wash‑water into drains or watercourses.
- Store sealed between +5 °C and +30 °C; protect from frost and direct heat.
