METALLIC DECORATIVE COATING · FEATHERED MOVEMENT · UK‑ADAPTED APPLICATION CYCLE
System overview
Klondike Light is a refined metallic decorative coating offering soft, atmospheric shimmer with minimal texture. Curated by Italian Surface Finishes for UK designers, it is ideal for premium residential interiors, boutique retail and hospitality projects where understated metallic luxury is required.
The standard UK‑approved Klondike Light system consists of:
- Substrate preparation — repairs, smoothing and sanding to a uniform finish.
- Primer — substrate‑specific primer or fixative as required.
- Tinted basecoat — rolled to an even finish to establish the undertone.
- Klondike Light effect coats — 1–2 coats, applied and feathered with a soft brush/spalter.
- Optional clear sealer — where additional durability or washability is required.
Step‑by‑step method
-
Prepare the substrate
Ensure the surface is sound, smooth and clean. Fill imperfections, sand lightly and remove dust. Prime if required to ensure uniform absorption as per the system sheet. -
Roll the tinted basecoat
Apply a uniform basecoat with a short‑pile roller. This establishes the undertone and significantly improves final uniformity. Allow to dry fully (typically 6–8 hours at 20 °C). -
Apply the first Klondike Light coat
Using a soft synthetic brush or spalter, apply Klondike Light in short, irregular strokes. Work in manageable sections, keeping the pattern gentle and consistent to avoid patchiness. -
Second coat — feather and unify
Apply the second coat thinly. While still workable, feather lightly using long, soft passes of the brush or spalter to blend strokes and unify the shimmer. Work wall‑by‑wall, maintaining a wet edge at all times. -
Optional compression
If a smoother, more minimal effect is desired, pass a clean plastic trowel very lightly across the surface to settle highlights and flatten any residual brushmarks. -
Optional protective sealer
In higher‑use areas, apply a compatible clear sealer after full cure to improve washability and resistance to marking.

Professional tips
- Use a soft synthetic brush — hard bristles can create unwanted striping.
- Blend edges immediately while wet to avoid visible joint lines.
- Always review the finish under the final lighting (daylight, LEDs, warm lamps) before sign‑off.
- For large walls, work in pairs: one applicator applies, the other feathers and unifies movement.
- Keep tools impeccably clean — metallic finishes reveal contamination instantly.
Safety & environment
Klondike Light is a water‑based, low‑VOC, breathable metallic coating appropriate for residential and commercial interiors when applied in accordance with manufacturer guidance.
- Ventilate well during application and drying.
- Wear gloves and eye protection; avoid skin and eye contact.
- Store sealed between +5 °C and +30 °C; protect from frost and direct heat sources.
- Dispose of residues and containers according to local regulations.
