Valsetin — Technical Data Sheet
Key performance data for Valsetin — Valpaint’s original silk‑effect decorative wall system built on a tinted Primer 400 base. Use this sheet when specifying Valsetin alongside Valsetin 2, Meteore 10 Intonaco, Klondike Classic and Sabulador Soft in architectural schemes, or when coordinating with Waterproof Artistic Walls.
CLASSIC ITALIAN SILK‑EFFECT WALL SYSTEM · LOW‑VOC WATER‑BASED COATING · PART OF THE ARCHITECTURAL FINISHES FAMILY
Key specifications
| Finish | Silk‑like decorative coating with fine pearly particles that refract light as a woven fabric would. Sheen and direction vary with the chosen technique (Seta Spatolata, Seta Striata, Seta d’Oriente, Seta Fiorata, Seta Parato, etc.). |
| Use / type | Water‑based decorative system for interior walls and ceilings. Not a structural coating and not intended for permanent immersion or flooring. |
| Chemistry & emissions |
Acrylic water‑based binder with selected mineral fillers and pearlescent pigments. Low‑VOC formulation with very low formaldehyde emission; suitable for residential, hospitality and commercial interiors where a silk‑effect finish is required. For projects focused on the absolute lowest VOC / emissions, Valsetin 2 may be preferred. |
| Coverage (guide) |
Approximate yields on smooth, properly primed substrates:
|
| Application tools |
Stainless‑steel trowels / spatulas (e.g. PV43, PV77) for Seta Spatolata, Seta d’Oriente and Lamata. Special brushes (e.g. PV94, PV09) for streaked and brushed effects. Setomat pads / sponges (PV32, PV33, PV34) for Fiorata and Parato finishes. For recommended tools see ISF Tools & Accessories. |
| System products |
Primer: VALPAINT PRIMER 400, always tinted to a colour close to the
final Valsetin shade. Finish: Valsetin, tinted with the VALPAINT COLORI’ / VALCLONE system and applied in 1–2 passes in the selected technique. Optional upgrades: V30 additive and Finish V16 for the Valsetin Soft cycle in higher‑stress environments. |
| Drying & curing |
At approx. 20 °C and 65 % RH:
|
| Recommended use |
Interior walls and ceilings in lounges, bedrooms, corridors, hotel lobbies, suites, boutiques, show flats and
similar environments. Keep to dry, ventilated zones. For fully waterproof decorative schemes in showers and wet rooms, use Evolution Plus as part of Waterproof Artistic Walls as the waterproof body, and carry silk or textile languages into adjacent dry areas. |
| Substrates | Interior plaster, skimmed plasterboard, properly filled and sanded joints, old but sound paintwork, cement–lime renders and similar mineral bases. Substrates must be dry, smooth, cohesive and uniformly primed with the specified Primer 400 cycle. |
| Colours | Tinted via the VALPAINT COLORI’ / VALCLONE system, giving a broad palette of neutral and chromatic silk tones. Primer 400 and Valsetin are tinted in harmony for depth and uniformity, coordinated in the London Studio for UK lighting. |
| Standard packaging | Valsetin typically supplied in 1 L, 2.5 L and 5 L pails (check current price list for locally available sizes). Primer 400, V30 and Finish V16 supplied separately as system components. |
The data above are indicative and may vary with substrate condition, application technique and site climate. Always prepare a representative sample panel on the actual substrate to confirm appearance and consumption before starting large areas.
Compatible substrates
Valsetin is suitable for most interior vertical substrates once they are correctly prepared. Typical examples:
- Gypsum plaster and skimmed plasterboard (fully cured and dry).
- Cement–lime plasters that are stable and free from efflorescence.
- Existing sound acrylic or vinyl paints, after cleaning and light abrasion.
Substrates must be sound, clean and cohesive. Remove loose or chalking coatings, repair cracks, fill imperfections and sand smooth. Apply the specified Primer 400 cycle to regulate absorption, unify colour and prepare the surface for the silk coats.
System build — Valsetin
The typical build‑up is:
-
1. Substrate preparation
Ensure surfaces are dry, clean and sound; remove loose or chalking paint, efflorescence and contaminants. Fill and sand defects, then de‑dust thoroughly. -
2. Tinted Primer 400
Apply Primer 400, tinted towards the selected Valsetin colour, as per the substrate requirements: diluted then neat on very absorbent bases, or neat on sound, even substrates. Allow to dry fully. -
3. First Valsetin coat
Apply a thin, continuous coat of Valsetin with the chosen tool (trowel / brush / Setomat), spreading evenly and removing excess to form a base silk film. -
4. Second coat & effect
Apply a second thin coat and, while workable, create the desired effect (Spatolata, Striata, d’Oriente, Fiorata, etc.) by controlling stroke direction, overlap and pressure. Work wall‑by‑wall, under project lighting. -
5. Optional Soft / V30 cycle
When using the Soft cycle, respect the V30 mixing ratios and apply Finish V16 where increased wash resistance and a softer sheen are required (corridors, high‑traffic areas).
Use & maintenance
Recommended use
Valsetin is intended for interior dry areas such as lounges, bedrooms, corridors, reception spaces, hotel lobbies, suites, boutiques and similar environments. It is not designed for permanently wet zones, direct water splash or floor traffic.
Cleaning & care
- Allow approximately 5–7 days for curing before first cleaning.
- Routine care: dust with a soft cloth or feather duster.
- After full cure, occasional cleaning with a damp soft cloth and mild neutral detergent is possible; avoid abrasive pads, strong alkalis, bleach and solvent‑based cleaners which may burnish or damage the silk film.
- In high‑traffic zones, specify the Soft + Finish V16 cycle for improved resistance and service life.
Health, safety & environment
- Water‑based, low‑VOC formulation with very low formaldehyde emissions.
- Apply in well‑ventilated areas; avoid inhalation of spray and contact with eyes or prolonged contact with skin.
- Wear suitable protective gloves, clothing and eye/face protection during application and sanding operations.
- Store containers tightly closed in a cool, dry place between +5 °C and +30 °C; protect from frost and direct sunlight.
- Do not dispose of product or wash water into drains or watercourses; follow local regulations for disposal of residues and empty packaging.
Integration with waterproof systems
In design‑led bathrooms and wet‑room projects, Valsetin is often paired with a separate waterproof body such as Evolution Plus. In these cases the silk finish is applied as a decorative topcoat over the cured waterproof system in non‑immersed zones (e.g. feature walls outside direct splash). For fully immersed areas, use the complete waterproof system and refer to the dedicated Waterproof Artistic Walls guidance.
