Italian Surface Finishes in UK
Valsetin 2 — Application Guide
UK‑adapted application cycle for Valsetin 2 — a modern silk wall system composed of Primer 400 tinted undercoat plus 1–2 thin silk coats. This guide mirrors the method used in the London Studio and Academy so Valsetin 2 can sit cleanly alongside Meteore 10 Intonaco, Klondike Classic and Sabulador Soft in one specification.
VALSETIN 2 SILK WALL SYSTEM · PRIMER 400 + SILK COATS · ARCHITECTURAL FINISHES BY VALPAINT IN LONDON
System overview
Valsetin 2 is a silk‑effect wall system for interiors that need both visual refinement and documented low‑VOC performance. It works as a disciplined cycle:
- Substrate preparation — repairs, smoothing and de‑dusting.
- Primer 400 — always tinted towards the chosen Valsetin 2 shade.
- Valsetin 2 silk coats — usually 1–2 thin coats by trowel or spatula to create the grain.
- Optional Soft cycle (V30 / V16) — where a softer sheen and higher resistance are required.
If you know classic Valsetin, think of Valsetin 2 as the low‑VOC, specification‑driven version — designed to sit neatly in the same project ecosystem as Meteore 10, Klondike and Sabulador Soft.
Step‑by‑step method
-
Assess & prepare the substrate
Ensure walls are sound, clean and dry. Remove loose or flaking paint, efflorescence and contaminants. Fill cracks and joints with appropriate filler, sand smooth and de‑dust thoroughly. Silk finishes show everything under grazing light; surface quality is non‑negotiable. -
Apply tinted Primer 400
Roller or brush one even coat of VALPAINT PRIMER 400, tinted in the same family as the chosen Valsetin 2 colour. This step:- Equalises absorption and masks joints.
- Gives colour depth and a safety net behind thin silk coats.
- Improves workability and open time on large walls.
-
First Valsetin 2 coat — silk base
Apply a thin, continuous coat of Valsetin 2 with a stainless‑steel trowel or spatula. Work in broad, slightly criss‑cross strokes to spread the material and remove excess, aiming for opacity and smoothness rather than the final pattern. Let this coat dry for approximately 4–6 hours. -
Second Valsetin 2 coat — create the effect
Apply a second thin coat and, while still workable, model the surface to achieve the chosen finish:- Brushed silk: run the spatula in one deliberate direction (vertical, horizontal or diagonal), overlapping strokes slightly so the grain reads as a single movement across the wall.
- Flowered / textile: use shorter, broken or circular strokes, or work with a soft brush / glove to introduce a woven or wallpaper‑like pattern.
-
Optional Soft / V30 protective cycle
Where the brief calls for a softer sheen and higher resistance (hotel corridors, circulation spaces, high‑use residential areas), upgrade the system with the V30 / Finish V16 Soft cycle as described in the Valsetin 2 Technical Data Sheet and dedicated product leaflets.

Professional tips from the London Studio
- Decide the grain before you start. Vertical, horizontal or diagonal — choose once, sample it and stay consistent across each wall.
- Sample under project lighting. Approve boards under the same daylight / LED mix that will be used on site. Silk reacts strongly to grazing spots and wall‑washers.
- Keep coats thin. Valsetin 2 performs best in thin, well‑spread films. Heavy build‑up increases risk of banding and makes joints harder to hide.
- Work from natural breaks. Complete each elevation in one pass, from corner to corner or between architectural breaks, to avoid lap marks.
- Think in systems, not pots. In specifications, always write Valsetin 2 as “Primer 400 (tinted) + Valsetin 2 silk coats”, and coordinate where it will meet Meteore 10, Klondike or Sabulador finishes on the same plan.
Drying, curing & maintenance
At around 20 °C and normal humidity:
- Primer 400: touch dry ≈ 2–3 hours; ready for silk coats after about 6 hours.
- Valsetin 2 coats: touch dry ≈ 2–3 hours; recoat after 4–6 hours.
- Careful use and light cleaning: from around 5–7 days.
After full curing, maintain Valsetin 2 by light dusting with a soft cloth or microfibre duster. Occasional marks can be removed with a slightly damp cloth and mild neutral detergent. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals and steam cleaning, which can burnish the silk film.
Keep Valsetin 2 to dry, ventilated interiors. For shower interiors and permanently wet areas, use E‑VOLUTION PLUS as part of Waterproof Artistic Walls as the waterproof body, and continue the silk / textile language on adjacent dry walls.
