MARBLE EFFECT · LIME‑BASED · LAYERED · UK‑ADAPTED APPLICATION CYCLE
System overview
Meteore 10 Marmorizzato is Valpaint’s mineral marble‑effect plaster — a lime‑based decorative system that recreates veined stone with controlled sheen and depth. Curated and tinted in the UK by Italian Surface Finishes, it is specified where a classic marble or marmorino / polished plaster reading is needed without the weight, cost or jointing of slab.
The Marmorizzato system uses a Meteore 10 mineral base plus optional Sabulador Soft glaze and protection:
- Primer 1200 — regulates absorption and provides a white base.
- Meteore 10 Marmorizzato — lime‑based plaster creating mineral body and veining.
- Compression / burnishing — controls sheen from honed to highly polished.
- Sabulador Soft (optional) — metallic / pearlescent glaze for enhanced depth and shimmer.
- Finish V 18 / wax (optional) — additional protection and sheen control where required.
Always read this guide together with the Technical Data Sheet for full system parameters.
Step‑by‑step method
-
Substrate preparation
Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, flat and sound. Fill cracks and imperfections, skim where necessary, sand smooth and remove all dust. Stabilise porous or chalky areas with the appropriate fixative. -
Primer 1200
Apply Primer 1200 by roller, brush or spray, diluted 15–20 % with clean water, to regulate absorption and create a uniform white base. Allow to dry (approx. 6 hours at 20 °C). -
Base coat — mineral body
Using a stainless‑steel trowel, apply a thin, even coat of Meteore 10 Marmorizzato over the primed surface. The aim is to create a uniform mineral body without heavy ridges. Allow this coat to dry fully (typically 6–8 hours at 20 °C). -
Second coat — veining & movement
Apply a second thin coat of Marmorizzato. While the plaster is still workable, vary trowel angle and pressure to generate soft marble veining — short diagonals, arcs and blended returns. Keep movements irregular and avoid mechanical repetition. As the material begins to firm, compact gently to unify and refine the pattern. -
Compression & sheen
As the surface reaches the right firmness (no longer wet, but still responsive), compress with a clean stainless trowel in multiple passes. Timing and pressure control sheen: lighter compression for a honed, stone‑like read; more pressure for a highly polished marmorino. -
Sabulador Soft glaze (optional)
Once the Marmorizzato mineral base is fully dry (typically 24 hours), apply Sabulador Soft in 2 thin coats, lightly diluted with water. Use a brush or trowel to lay on and break up the glaze, matching the direction of the veining. This step adds metallic / pearlescent depth similar to the subtle shimmer seen in certain marbles. -
Optional protective coat
In higher‑wear areas, or where increased cleanability is required, apply a compatible clear protection (e.g. Finish V 18 Gloss/Matt or wax) once all previous coats are completely dry. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance on number of coats and drying times.

Professional tips
- Keep the trowel immaculate. Any burr or dried material on the edge will scratch the surface and disrupt the polished marble effect.
- Layer tone gradually. Build veining and movement with overlapping passes rather than harsh lines. A good Marmorizzato wall should feel like stone, not stripes.
- Work wet‑to‑wet across logical sections. Plan walls so edges and corners can be blended while the plaster is still workable, avoiding cold joints.
- Judge sheen under project lighting. Always review the surface under the same light (colour temperature and direction) that will be used in the finished space.
- Use sample boards. Agree colour, veining density and sheen on sample boards before starting large areas — standard practice for marmorino / polished plaster projects.
Safety & environment
Meteore 10 Marmorizzato is a lime‑based, water‑borne, low‑VOC mineral plaster. It supports breathable construction and is suitable for interiors that prioritise air quality and long‑term durability.
- Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.
- Wear gloves and eye protection; avoid prolonged skin or eye contact.
- Store in sealed containers between +10 °C and +30 °C; protect from frost.
- Do not wash tools into drains or watercourses; dispose of residues responsibly.
